What was the design inspiration for The 1770 House?

The 1770 House was designed to keep its historical character while simultaneously offering the elegant comfort that people look for when traveling.

What is unique about your property?

History makes The 1770 House such a unique property. It dates back to the mid-1600s and was originally owned by the Fithian family, a name that’s long been associated with East Hampton. There are Fithians still living in this community and there’s even a Fithian Lane in East Hampton Village.
To the best of our knowledge, this colonial home was built in 1770 by Jonathon Dayton, also from a well-known East Hampton family. The 1770 House sits at the corner of Dayton Lane and Main Street.

What was important about having Frette in your property?

Frette epitomizes quality and luxury. Our guests expect the best and Frette delivers with its magnificent linens. The 1770 House features Frette robes, slippers, beach towels and dinner napkins in addition to bed linens, a clear illustration of our commitment to excellence.

How do the Frette products add to the design of the hotel?

While the inn itself is an old and beautiful structure, it’s filled with modern amenities. The classic beauty and simplicity of Frette products fit perfectly in that equation.

What are the most decorative elements in the property?

Furnishings that complement the colonial style of the house while remaining fresh and current.

The 1770 House was designed to keep its historical character while simultaneously offering the elegant comfort that people look for when traveling.

What are the three most important elements when designing a bedroom/room?

The three most important elements are the bed, the bedding and the bathroom. The bed should be of a high quality and extremely comfortable. The bedding should consist of luxurious linens. And the bathroom should be modern and clean with quality towels.

What does it feel like to wrap yourself in Frette?

When you wrap yourself in Frette, you can relax and prepare to dream. It’s pure comfort!

How do you define luxury?

Luxury is natural extravagance.

If you only have 72 hours in East Hampton, what would you recommend doing or seeing?

My top recommendation in East Hampton is a visit to the Long House Reserve. It’s a breathtaking outdoor sculpture garden that never ceases to amaze me. There, you’ll find blown glass forms from Dale Chihuly and Yoko Ono’s concrete chess set to name just a few.

What is your favourite restaurant in East Hampton?

The Tavern at The 1770 House is my personal go-to in the neighborhood. I also love Fresno for delicious food, service and ambiance.
