What draws visitors to New York?

New York City is the capital of excitement, so there is seemingly no end to the list of what draws people to visit. For those who like the performing arts, we have Broadway, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden, along with live music and comedy venues throughout the city. There are world-class art museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. There is also world-class shopping, dining and nightlife. New York is a city of rich history while also a hot-bed for popular culture. Visitors can walk in the footsteps of Holly Golightly, Carrie Bradshaw and Gossip Girl, among many others.

What was The Langham’s design inspiration and how does it influence guest experience?

The focal point of the hotel’s design is the art collection. We have a world-class permanent collection of art by Alex Katz that can be found throughout the hotel. The hotel’s interiors were strongly influenced by the art, with residentially-inspired guest rooms and suites that are among the largest in New York City featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the city. We recently redid the furniture in our lobby, with the help of BB Italia, creating a warm and inviting place for guests to gather before and after check-in.

What is one thing guests will experience only at The Langham?

The Langham Club, which debuted in 2022, is a brand identifier of The Langham Hotels & Resorts brand. We are one of the only luxury hotels in New York City to have a private club lounge. Ours is warm and welcoming, with plush seating, ample book shelves, a small bar area and a well-planned buffet and kitchen area where we not only serve full breakfast in the morning but also small meal presentations throughout the day.

Turning to the guest rooms, how does The Langham deliver an element of comfort and familiarity whilst remaining true to the hotel’s experience at large?

Our rooms are some of the most spacious in New York City, averaging about 750 square feet. Each room features a Nespresso machine, an electric kettle and several room types and all of our suites also feature a full kitchen with Miele appliances. Our suites also have a washer/dryer, allowing guests to truly feel at home when they are with us. We also invested in the very best linens, including our Frette bedding, to ensure that our guests enjoy the most comfortable stay possible.

What is your favourite thing to do in NY?

I enjoy exploring Fifth Avenue. The best thing about our address is that it leads, quite literally, to both ends of Manhattan. There is no better street from which to explore all the best neighborhoods in New York – from Greenwich Village to East Harlem.

Which of The Langham’s services can’t be missed?

Ai Fiori, the restaurant managed by Altamarea Group on our 2nd floor, is not to be missed. It serves a memorable menu of Italian and French Riviera-inspired cuisine in the most beautiful setting. “Ai Fiori” means “among the flowers” in Italy and they took those words quite literally in the interiors, which makes you feel like you are dining in a garden.

How does Frette fit into guest experience at The Langham? What makes our two brands such a natural fit?

Frette represents the epitome of a luxurious sleep and we consider ourselves to offer the same. Both brands are best in class and so it makes perfect sense that they would come together.

Where is your favourite place at The Langham to enjoy a private moment?

The Library in the back corner of The Langham Club is a personal favorite for enjoying a moment’s reprieve from the hustle and bustle of New York City. I also like to sit in The Gallery, our event space on the 3rd floor where much of our original Alex Katz paintings are hung, to appreciate the art. .

To experience New York like a local, where should guests visit?

There are quite a few restaurants right in our neighborhood that are favorites of locals. There’s Keens Steakhouse, which has been there since 1855; Tonchin, which has arguably the city’s best ramen; and Yoon Haeundae Galbi, one of many amazingly authentic Korean restaurants in our neighborhood. My favorite, though, is Royal 35, which I think is the best steakhouse in the city and is a big favorite of the neighborhood residents, of which I am one.

Can you share the most unique experience the team has crafted for a guest?

There are so many to choose from! One that springs to mind is a family that recently stayed with us who has a young daughter informed us that it was the child’s birthday and her one wish had been to come back to The Langham. We not only made sure the room was decorated, complete with balloons and streamers and a cake, when the family arrived but we found out when they were headed to breakfast in The Langham Club and the club staff created another wow moment for her there – even including her American Girl doll in the merriment by having a little place setting for breakfast for her. We are sure that she will never forget this birthday spent with us at The Langham!
