What was the design inspiration for the Lancaster?

In the style of many European, boutique hotels, The Lancaster conveys a blend of modern (cool, neutral palate and advanced technological amenities) and the traditional (ornate woodwork and architectural details, traditional furnishings).

What is unique about your property?

We are a historical property built in 1926 and last year celebrated our 90th anniversary. The Lancaster is Houston’s first independent boutique hotel as well as the city’s oldest continuously-operating hotel. We have been family-owned since day one, currently by the 4thgeneration of the original developer’s family.

Without function a room or space serves no purpose. However, both comfort and tasteful elegance are critical for a guest to get the most out of their experience in the space. The Lancaster Hotel looks to constantly reassess all three elements on behalf of our guests.

What was important about having Frette in your property?

Our bedding is one of The Lancaster’s hallmarks. The soft, elegant bedding defines the level of service and amenities our guests have come to expect.

How do Frette linens add to the design of the hotel?

A hotel guest’s stay can be singularly defined by their quality of sleep and the comfort of the room’s bedding. Our guests regularly report to us how far superior their experience with us has been compared to countless other hotels around the world. A large part of that exceptional comfort and quality of sleep is due to Frette bedding.

What does it feel like to wrap yourself in Frette?

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the Frette bedding used at The Lancaster is its softness. Sliding in between the sheets is a nightly indulgence. Simply stated, luxury.

What are your three most important elements when designing a bedroom/room?

Without function a room or space serves no purpose. A hotel’s guests rooms are, perhaps, a prime example of how a single space needs to serve multiple functions (work, sleep, etc.). However, both comfort and tasteful elegance are critical for a guest to get the most out of their experience in the space. The Lancaster Hotel looks to constantly reassess all three elements on behalf of our guests.

If you only have 72 hours in Houston what would you recommend doing or seeing?

The NASA Johnson Space Center is truly a one-of-a-kind experience and a part of modern history. The amazing Menil Collection and Rothko Chapel in the Museum District are very inspiring, but if retail therapy is more your speed, the sprawling Galleria is not to be missed.

What is your favorite restaurant in Houston?

Brasserie 19 in the nearby River Oaks District is specializes in French cuisine with New American influences. It is a hidden gem and a local favorite.
