Tell us about the design of The St. Regis Rome.

Embracing the grandeur of an historic 1894 palazzo, the renovation of The St. Regis Rome, led by renowned interior design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon Inc. (PYR) of Paris and Chicago, honours the proud 125-year legacy of the hotel by celebrating the captivating light of Rome while reimagining its timeless elegance for the 21st Century.

The full-scale restoration included all areas for socializing and entertaining such as the lobby, lounge bar, and library as well as all of the hotel’s 138 guest rooms and 23 opulent suites. Elegantly layered pastel hues breathe new life into the guestrooms while a regal palette of black and gold anchors the lobby, which is punctuated by intricate moldings, arched entryways and fluted columns with an abundance of natural light falling upon the cream, white and dove grey tones of the space.

Materials used in the restoration, such as travertine and bronze, reference the Italian capital’s architectural heritage and traditions of fine artisanship. Magnificent sculptural busts, mosaics and objets d’art are displayed alongside plush fabrics. Aristocratic Roman patterns are further enriched by touches of deep yellow, powder blue and noble shimmers of gold and silver.

Following the restoration, the magnificent hotel offers guests a winning combination of history, location and an abundance of charm.

What are some interesting facts about the property that many are surprised to learn?

  1. Lumen Cocktails & Cuisine, the name of the lounge bar, owes its name to the unit of
measurement of light and was inspired by a butterfly.

  2. The 13th elevator in Rome is located on-property and is still working.

  3. The hotel’s house car is a vintage Fiat 600 Multipla from 1962. Keeping the property's
green philosophy in mind, the car has been customized by Garage Italia with a new
    zero-emission electric engine unit

  4. The Ritz Ballroom was the first public ballroom to open in Rome.

What touches do you believe make a room or suite feel like someone’s home-away-from-home?

In my opinion, there are three touches that make a hotel feel like a home-away-from-home. First is comfort in design. Second is fresh flowers and unique, cosy bedding. Third is a signature fragrance evocative of home.

It’s always a fresh caprese, spaghetti al pomodoro and seasonal fruit.

What is the most unique experience you’ve put together for a guest?

We’ve had the opportunity to create some truly unique experiences for our guests but, for me, it’s about the small details that really make the difference for our guests – a silk pajama set personalized with the guest’s initials, a birthday surprise complete with balloons and a cake organized by our Butler Team, a festive Christmas tree in-room during the holidays…

If you only had 24 hours in Rome, where would you visit?

It’s simple. The Sistine Chapel, an evening walk through Fori Imperiali and the best cocktails in town at our very own Lumen Cocktails & Cuisine.
